The University of the Philippines (UP) launches “Back to Basics: Fundamental Principles and Values for Nation Building”, a 196-page compilation of ‘rightist’ sentiments tackling responsible citizenship.
The book is a refreshing change from the usual publications from the university, known for its activism. It is a compilation of essays from UP alumni and students, which topics range from good governance, love, sex, friendship, academic freedom, violence, vices and character formation.
The book aims to stir the youth’s idealism, stressing the need for each and every Filipino to take charge and govern his or her own life. With a breezy, down-to-earth and comfortable writing style, the book makes for a worthwhile read while showing a different and softer side of UP alumni’s.
“Back to Basics” is a 2005 MG Reprographix publication, edited by Oliver Tuazon, a UP Biology professor. Jess Abrera, cartoonist of the Philippine Daily Inquirer, provided the illustrations to set off the collection of essays. Comments : Add a comment
