I'm so grateful to find a webside dedicated exclusively for Quezon City. Thanks to its creators. I've been living in Quezon City since 1969, grow up here, studied here, graduated, got married, had children and now might have my own grandchildren here. I'm also glad that Mayor Belmonte is now at the helm of the Quezon City governmental reins and we are now seeing some tangible changes for the better.
I do hope Mayor Belmonte will lend a sympathetic and proactive ear to my plea. It's about the ubiquitous tricycles we now have all over the Philippines. I'm sure many would agree that the tricycle is now the king of the road, replacing the old and battered jeepneys. Can we not have a user-friendly tricycle, something ergonomically sound and environmentally appropriate? My main complaints about the tricycle are: first, they jarr our eardrums. So, I guess the QC gov't have to mandate a 3-stroke engine for all tricycles. Second, accommodations are so cramped. I suggest Mayor Belmonte conduct a contest to design the most appropriate tricycle configuration based on cost, design, maximum no. of passengers and environmental and ergonomic considerations. He can open the contest to students of Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineers and the like, not only to save cost but also to promote our students' talents and competitive edge. My third complaint is the fare. There has got to be a standard and fixed fare for the distance travelled. And, maybe set standards too for the qualifications of the drivers.
I love the tricycle. I use it most of the time. But if QC is to be the frontrunner in the effective management of local governments and to be true to its service to its residents, I strongly suggest that Mayor Belmonte look into this mode of transporation that serves, not only to bring people from one point to the next, but also provide an important vehicle for the trade and commerce of the small people who want rise above their present difficult predicament. Thank you for this opportunity.
